PD 501 was the first of a batch of 28 Leyland PD 3/5s in the Hong Kong CMB fleet.  Like the PD 3/4s, these PD 3/5s had served Southdown Motor Services in England before coming to Hong Kong in 1975 for a new lease of life.
PD 3 was a major chassis type of Leyland Motors, and the code stood for Passenger Double-deck 3rd generation.  While PD 3/4s had manual synchromesh gearboxes, PD 3/5s were equipped with 4-speed semi-automatic transmission and Leyland 0600 engines.
Previously all CMB semi-automatic vehicles had electro-pneumatic gearboxes, these PD 3/5s were the only CMB vehicles fitted with pneumocyclic gearboxes operated by a bigger gear selector on a floor-mounted pedestal, called the "air gears".  Since they have slow performance on hills, they were mainly allocated to the flat routes on Hong Kong Islands, and some of them were re-engined with Leyland 0680 engines removed from the Leyland XA class Atlanteans.
Like the PD 3/4s, the PD 3/5s had Northern Counties full FH39+30F bodywork, and the windows were modified to full depth sliding type in Hong Kong to improve ventilation in the tropical climate.
This sharp looking, hard to find 1:76 model, made in 2000, comes with a numbered Limited Edition Certificate Card in a plastic display case.  There's a crack in one back corner of the plastic case (see pic).  Please also check out the red version of the CMB Bus (Corgi 41904) on my eBay listing (shown in the last picture for illustration purposeonly).
All my models are kept in a smoke-free and pet-free home.  This model has never been out of the box since I bought it except for taking the pictures.  It would make a great addition to your diecast bus/Hong Kong CMB model collection!
