In 1992, Citybus won the franchise to operate 26 routes on Hong Kong island, and 2 cross harbor routes, all of which started on September 1, 1993.  Over 200 buses were required for the operation, and of these, 100 were planned to be second hand non air-conditioned buses.
To meet this requirement, 101 Leyland Atlantean buses were purchased from Singapore and refurbished to bring them up to Hong Kong standards.  The most obvious part of this work was the fitting of an Alexander 'R'-type front to give a common look across the Citybus fleet.
A total of 97 entered service, initially for three years after which they would be withdrawn from service and replaced with new air-conditioned buses.  However, some continued on in service until March 1998.
Network 26" was the name used to refer to this network of routes, and was featured on the side of all the buses as well as on bus stops and timetables.
This sharp looking, hard to find 1:76 model, made in 1999, comes with a numbered Limited Edition Certificate Card in a plastic display case.  The model is still sealed inside the case.  Please also check out the other Hong Kong Citybus models (Corgi 43205 and 44504) on my eBay listing.
All my models are kept in a smoke-free and pet-free home.  This model has never been out of the box since I bought it except for taking the pictures.  It would make a great addition to your diecast bus/Hong Kong Citybus model collection!
